Professional learning that increases educator effectiveness and results for all students is the stem that begins each of Learning Forward’s seven Standards for Professional Learning. Learning Forward Maryland would like to highlight the work of Maryland educators who live these standards and have achieved results! We invite all who have achieved high levels of student success and excellence through innovative means to celebrate these exemplary programs by nominating one of your noteworthy programs for the LFMD Educators as Innovators Excellence Award.

What is the Learning Forward Maryland Educators as Innovators Excellence Award Program?
The program began over 25 years ago as the Maryland Council of Staff Developers Recognition of Excellence in Staff Development. The mission was to provide vision, leadership and support for facilitating school improvement in a diverse educational environment. It is in the spirit of encouraging and identifying exemplary practices that we continue to sponsor this recognition program. The Educators as Innovators Excellence Award recognizes innovative programs and projects that develop individuals and organizations in a manner consistent with Learning Forward's standards, expectations and beliefs.

Eligible programs or projects may be school–based or system wide; designed for developing leadership skills or instructional skills; and delivered in a variety of ways. We are especially interested in recognizing professional learning that results in student achievement. Educators as Innovators Excellence Awards will be given to one outstanding individual submission and one outstanding team submission. Both public and nonpublic programs are encouraged to apply.

What is the process for nominating a program for the award? How is the recipient chosen?
  1. A school, school system, university or college selects an exemplary program or project to nominate. An application form is completed and submitted to the designated address.
  2. A Learning Forward Maryland review committee meets to evaluate the applications shortly after the deadline.
  3. Programs qualifying for a second review may by be contacted by the awards committee members for direct follow-up.
  4. Winning submissions will be awarded a commemorative plaque and be highlighted by Learning Forward Maryland. In addition, all selected recipients will receive a certificate and be honored during the 2016 Learning Forward Maryland Fall Meeting.
